The Department of Justice is confident that the case against Senator Leila de Lima regarding illegal drug trafficking in Bilibid remains strong.
This before the alleged withdrawal of some witnesses from their testimony about De Lima’s participation in the drug case.
The Secretary of Justice, Menardo Guevarra, asserted that as long as the alleged retraction of certain personalities is not taken into account in the cross-examination before the courts, it has no weight or probative value.
As a result, Justice Department prosecutors will continue to prosecute De Lima’s drug case.
The DOJ panel of prosecutors first recommended Guevarra actively prosecute the senator after reviewing the evidence against her.
Guevarra said he is confident that prosecutors have good reason to continue to prosecute De Lima.
The clerk further emphasized that the court has the final say in the case and no one else.
