The trailer opens with the older Mackenzie walking to the back of her Palm Springs rental house, plagued by beer cans, while running into her best friend Carla (Taylour Paige), who naturally doesn’t recognize her.

“You can’t be here,” Carla says, but Mack keeps insisting that she is her, even though Carla doesn’t picture her, saying, “Another move, you get an eye full of pepper fixed.”

‘It’s me! Mack! she says, as Carla somehow begins to picture her.

“I grew up all the time feeling like I was an older woman trapped in a little woman’s body,” says Mack, as we see glimpses of her life and her loss.

She says she wrote a guide, but another friend tells her, “If you don’t get paid, it’s a passion and hobbies are disgusting.”

Mack adds in a study of his guide: “And I did my best to keep my insides before me.

Along the way to Palm Springs, Mack tells her friends Carla, Sunita (Aimee Carrero), and Michelle (Sara Amini) that she thought it would be “so much fun if we all lay down and do a previous life regression.”

The women don’t exactly like it and Carla says she should and they’ll meet her back at the house.

She walks into the regression tent where she meets Luca (Simon Rex), who tells her, “Lie back and think about who you want to be.”

“I am a 70 year old woman trapped in the body of a 30 year old man who just wants a minute to relax!” Mack screams…before she is remodeled back to her 70-year-old self.

‘Anyone help me, this is not me!’ she yells outside an empty tent, when everyone has left, before turning back to Carla.

‘So you were fascinated by previous girl things and you were one too?’ Carla says, adding, ‘Then he should find a way to turn you back into you.’

Unfortunately, when she returns to where the regression tent was, nothing sticks, as she returns to Los Angeles, where she meets her canine handler (Dustin Milligan), introducing herself as Mack’s ‘Aunt Rita’.

Carla introduces ‘Aunt Rita’ to some of her older friends (Lois Smith, Amy Hill, Wendie Malick), who say their wine membership meets every day.

Rita begins to take on Mack’s role as author and influencer, while bonding with dog handler Jack as well.

Carla insists, “everything that’s happening to you right now is because you’re showing the world who you are,” as her boss says they’re getting, “some fascinating gifts for Rita.”

“Put more of my glammy grammy, people are dying for it,” insists the boss, while another friend (Nicole Byer) says that Mack did not want to be old, “what you wanted was to be you.”

The trailer ends with Mack/Rita finally monitoring Luca, yelling, ‘I slept in that pod and when I got there, I was in this body!’

“Okay, you’re coming in with a lot of power,” Luca says as Rita yells at him as the trailer comes to an end.

Mack and Rita, from director Katie Aselton (Black Rock), debuts in theaters August 12 from Gravitas Ventures.
