KUALA LUMPUR, June 22: The country’s young women’s track cycling star, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, today added another collection of her personal medals on the final day of the Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi.
The 19-year-old won bronze in the women’s keirin final at the tournament held at the Velodrome of the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.
Japan’s Mina Sato won the event, while the silver went to South Korea’s Park Ji Hae.
Last Sunday, Nurul Izzah became famous as the first Malaysian female cyclist to win gold at the tournament when she cleared the 500m time trial with a time of 35.499 seconds(s).
For its part, the junior national team took home two more medals through its two female jockeys, Nyo Ci Hui in the omnium event and Azwa Nabila Abdullah in the keirin competition.
Ci Hui took silver by amassing 116 points overall behind Japanese champion Maho Kakita (153 points), while Uzbek cyclist Asal Rizaeva won bronze (110 points).
Azwa was content with the bronze medal, while South Korea’s Kim Doye won gold followed by his compatriot Na Yunseo for silver. -TVs
