Outgoing National Security Advisor HermogenesEsperan insisted that the diplomatic protest lodged by the Philippines against China over the recent incidents in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) must be accompanied by other measures.
Esperón explained that the Philippines must show the world its other steps against China in order to fight for its sovereignty in the WPS.
“Hindi naman madadala ‘yan sa 280 na protests. We simply have to assert ourselves through diplomatic action or whatever other instruments of national power are: military, informational, economic, political and legal intelligence, and we could include the support of the people”, pagdidiin niEsperan.
To date, the country has lodged more than 200 diplomatic protests against China.
The Philippines last held a similar protest in March after Chinese fishing boats flooded the Julian Felipe Reef, which is still within the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
The problem, he said, is a major challenge for the administration of President-elect Marcos, Jr.
“With China, we also have trade. Other economic matters, tourism, defense, cultural exchanges. So will we forget that because we have a misunderstanding there in the South China Sea? Esperanza added.
