A group of people associated with “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” were arrested Thursday night for illegally entering the offices of Congress in Washington, DC.

Among them is Robert Smigel, known for his character Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Smigel is a frequent guest on The Colbert CBS Show.

The group had previously attempted to do interviews at the Cannon House office building, but were pulled due to a lack of press credentials.

A CBS spokesperson told DailyMail.com that the crew members were arrested after their most recent interview, after staying to film “comedy elements in the hallways.”

The spokesman said the interviews were prepared by congressional aides.

The announcer said the crew filmed at the Capitol on June 15 and 16.

Citing a congressional source, Fox News relayed to Jesse Waters that Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff of California and Congressman Jake Oschenklos of Massachusetts gave the group access to the building.

During an appearance at Waters, Illinois Rep. Rodney Davis said the group is knocking on the doors of Republicans Jim Jordan and Kevin McCarthy.

Davis also told Watters, “We just found out about the arrest today, and I’m going to make sure that when we get back to Washington next week, we’ll ask the necessary questions. We’re going to ask security officials why these arrests are being made.”

The House Special Committee on Public Hearings on the Jan. 6 attack played a prominent role in Colbert’s filing in recent days.

Those arrested along with Smigel were Jake Plunkett, Allison Martinez, Tyrone Dean, Stephen Romond, Nicoletta Green, Brendan Hurley, Josh Comers and David Feldman.

According to her LinkedIn page, Alison Martinez is a co-producer of Colbert’s popular late-night comedy talk show.

His page listed Jake Plunkett as one of the show’s producers and executive directors.

Brendan Hurley is an entertainment genius and has worked with Colbert since the host’s comedy-focused show The Colbert Report.

Josh Commerce is a comedian and writer from Brooklyn.

David Feldman is an author and comedian who previously worked on Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show.

On his website, Feldman did not mention his arrest, but said that he was back in New York City after filming Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, which he referred to as his “boss”. “It’s tough but fair,” Feldman joked.

The group had previously attempted to do interviews at the Cannon House office building, but were eliminated due to a lack of press credentials.

Nicoletta Green, Colbert’s employee, was among those arrested. She has been working on the show since September 2020.

According to a statement from Capitol Police: “At approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 16, 2022, the United States Capitol Police (USCP) received a call to cause a disturbance at the Longworth House office building.” .

Responding officers noticed seven people, alone and without congressional identification, in a sixth-floor lobby.

“The building is closed to visitors and it is determined that these individuals are part of a USCP-led group to vacate the building earlier in the day,” the statement continued.

They were accused of illegally entering the country. This is an active criminal investigation and may result in the filing of additional criminal charges upon consultation with the US Attorney.

It is unclear if Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, was present when the group was arrested.

The crew was arrested while filming outside the office of controversial Republican Rep. Lauren Poubert.

There was no comment from Stephen Colbert about the arrests.
