Press statement from Kinrara ADUN, Ng Sze Han on the opening of phase 1 of the MRT2 line

This intention is in line with the State Government’s goal through the Selangor State Public Transport Master Plan (PIPANS) to double the public transport usage rate in Selangor from 20% to 60% by 2030.

The opening of Phase 1 of Timeline Transit Service 2 (MRT2) from Kampung Batu (Kuala Lumpur) to Kwasa Damansara in Shah Alam, Selangor today is a positive step towards improving the public transport network in Selangor.

It is in line with the agenda outlined in PIPANS.

The Selangor State Government, represented by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Local Government and Public Transport and the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Public Infrastructure and Facilities, had the opportunity to test the MRT2 facility on June 14, 2022 with MRT Corp.

With the capacity of the MRT2 Railway carriages to carry a total of 1,200 people at a time, as well as connectivity to other rail systems, this facility is sure to benefit Selangor’s 6.57 million residents.

Especially when the MRT2 Phase 2 line starts operating in January 2023, which will link this line with Cyberjaya and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya.

In line with the opening of MRT2, the Selangor State Government hopes that the Federal Government may consider increasing the number of buses and bus routes, especially in densely populated areas in Selangor State.

This initiative will be able to successfully strengthen “first and last mile connectivity” throughout the rapidly developing Klang Valley with various economic activities.

To support efforts to strengthen “first and last mile connectivity”, the Selangor State Government has already introduced the free Selangor Smart Bus service since 2015 with an estimated RM40 million per year provided for this purpose.

With such efforts, it is hoped that the interest of Selangor people in using public transport services can be increased.
