Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was invited yesterday to experience the ride on the Putrajaya MRT Line Phase One due to his “love of trains”, reports Berita Harian.
MRT Corp CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said the company extended the invitation to Najib after learning of his tweet about the Putrajaya MRT line project.
“In his tweet, he expressed his interest in boarding the train, so we responded to his tweet and invited him to board the train,” Zarif was quoted as saying by the Malaysian daily.
However, he declined to comment on the backlash MRT Corp received after inviting Najib to board the train yesterday.
“In fact, we have also extended the same invitation to community leaders to experience the journey,” added Zarif.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who today launched Phase One of the MRT Putrajaya line, also declined to comment further on the matter.
“He did not want to comment on why MRT invited him. I just launched it today and the invite is correct for MRT,” she said.
Yesterday, Najib posted on Facebook about his experience riding the new Putrajaya MRT.
As of press time, the post had received 2,400 likes, and in the comments section, most Facebook users thanked Najib for his effort to improve the public transportation system during his tenure as prime minister.
